The Lutheran Home Special Care Unit is a self-contained unit that provides care to those who have an Alzheimer's or a dementia diagnosis and may have a tendency to wander. Admittance to and from the Special Care Unit requires use of a keypad thus helping prevent wandering into unattended areas.  Included in the unit is a dining room, showers, bathroom facilities, patio and activity hall.  A distinctive feature is the enclosed courtyard.  A covered patio with lawn furniture provides shade and a resting place.

The structure and design of the Special Care Unit promotes security, safety, and independence. The goal of the Lutheran Home Special Care Unit is to form a community among the staff, residents and the residents' families, thus enhancing each individual's quality of life.

If you are considering a specialized facility for someone with dementia or Alzheimer's Disease, please read our Guide to Selecting an Alzheimer's Unit.

Alzheimer's Support Group Meetings are held at The Lutheran Home every second Tuesday of each month at 7:00PM and are open to the community at large.  For more information, please call 573-335-0158.
